Belmont Craigin Community
The town was named after the Cragin Brothers’ metalworking company. The neighborhood’s present-day name comes from that and Belmont Avenue, one of the area’s primary streets. Demographics · White: 18.5%, · Black: 6.0 %, · Hispanic: 72% (according to new census tract 2010)
Humboldt Park
Humboldt Park officially became part of Chicago in 1869. Set off by two 59-foot-high steel Puerto Rican flags, this is a street of cafes and restaurants, of social services, of shops, of a Walk of Fame. Of the 50 or so murals in the general neighborhood, 10 are along this paseo, three of those on corner buildings at Division and Campbell Avenue. It’s a working-class neighborhood filled with older frame and brick houses, flats, courtyard buildings and newer bungalows.
West Lawn
Though primarily residential, West Lawn is home to Ford City, one of the largest retail shopping centers on the city’s Southwest Side. Not far away is the campus of Richard J. Daley College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, and Midway International Airport. West Lawn’s main cultural attraction, the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture promotes the traditions and history of one of the most prominent ethnic groups in Chicago.
